Gul began his education in Sangrur, Punjab. But to see her father's military career, he moved to various locations across India (and beyond). After that he attended 14 schools, including Kendriya Vidyalayas (Chandigarh, Mhow, Leh, and Wellington, Tamil Nadu), Lawrence School, Lovedale and the International School of Lusaka, Zambia. He got his BA in mathematics at Punjab University, Patiala and Masters in Political Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Panag the students' interest in sports and public speaking.
